Two novel-writing retreats are offered:
INDIVIDUAL RETREATS:
Anna believes that writing is a craft that can be learned, and anyone interested in that learning is encouraged to come to Heron House. Designed for the real beginner, the weekend begins with dinner on Friday with Anna. During the time at Heron House, writers will learn about plotting, character development, and the all-important first sentence and page. Lessons will also cover writing the rough draft, dialogue, editing, and the business of writing. Discussions will be interspersed with time for writing and with critiques of the writing by Anna. Usually, the individual retreats begin at six on Friday evening and end on Sunday at two. However, individual retreats can be arranged for weekdays as well.
GROUP RETREATS:
Group retreats begin with dinner at six on Friday night and end at four on Sunday afternoon. Blocks of two hours are set aside for meals. During meal time, Anna will share her insight into plotting, character development, beginnings, dialogue, editing, writing the first draft, and revision. Time will be set aside for writing, and each writer will have four hours of individual critique time with Anna. Because visitors share a bath, Heron House does not host men at this time.
ABOUT FOOD:
Meals will be simple, but nutritious. Anyone with special dietary needs must contact us in advance.
ABOUT COST:
Individual retreats are $750. A deposit of $200 must be paid in advance with the balance due on arrival.
Group retreats are $400 for each person. A deposit of $100 must be paid in advance with the balance due on arrival.
DEPOSITS ARE NOT REFUNDABLE DURING THE WEEK BEFORE THE RETREAT.
