John & Anna welcome visitors to Heron House

Anna wrote her first book before starting to school. Too young to write more than her name, she dictated the story to an older sister. You might think a 6-year-old would write about puppies or bunnies, but Anna chose to write a men’s action adventure called The Long Bearded Man. The story was about a man who put a dollar on the doorstep, rang the doorbell, kicked the person who bent to get the dollar in the stomach, retrieved his dollar as well as taking one from his victim, only to go next door and do it again. Anna regrets not still having that manuscript because she is sure she could sell it to Hollywood!
She did make money on the venture, though, charging each of her older siblings, including the one who wrote it down for her, a quarter to read her story. A buck twenty-five! Easy money. She decided then and there to become a writer.
